The Miracle League of Newton County Vision

Two recent articles, one from a local reporter and the other from a concerned citizen, layout the specifics of the upcoming SPLOST vote in Newton County and its importance to Newton County citizens.  A portion of the SPLOST will fund the Miracle League of Newton County facility that Georgia Civil has had the privilege of designing through our “Giving Back” initiative.  The facility will be a tremendous addition to City Pond Park and will serve both the general population and special needs people in the area.  I have linked the two articles below for further reading.

Tubman Education Center on track

The historic Tubman School, now called the Tubman Education Center, is on track for its opening in September.  The Augusta Chronicle has a short article in the paper today about the renovation.

Named after notable Augusta philanthropist Emily Tubman, the Tubman Education Center has played a important role in Augusta’s history since its founding as the Neely Institute in 1874. Until the 1950s, it served as the only public high school for girls in the Augusta area.

The current structure was designed by local architect G. Lloyd Preacher in the Beaux Arts tradition in 1917. At the time, the structure contained many previously unforeseen innovations including a large state of the art auditorium capable of seating 864, a library, steam heated classrooms, and a ventilation system.

Georgia Civil’s role in the renovation process has been to design and engineer new vehicular and pedestrian routes within the school grounds, as well as make landscaping improvements to the grounds.

Georgia Civil is proud to partner with the Richmond County Board of Education and Cheatham Fletcher Scott Architects in assuring the Tubman Education Center continues to hold a prominent position in Augusta’s History.
